Moments Along the Way: Projects

Early on projects that honed my skillset & helped develop my passions

Developed Meritage Homes's First ESG Investor Report

In this internship I entirely built the 2020 Meritage ESG Investor report. By conducting industry benchmarking to determine successful strategies, comparing proxy voting policies, and aligning the company trajectory with key sustainability reporting frameworks. This work entirely informed the content and structure of the ultimate report, not only resulting in a favorable vote from company investors but driving Meritage toward further into corporate sustainability.

Customer Pick-Up Bid Process Engineering for PepsiCo

The biggest project in my accelerated 6 week internship was overhauling the entire customer pick-up bid process. Looking at this bulky 6 month process, I conducted numerous stakeholder interviews to determine their problems and needs for the process. Then I developed a project swim lane for the current process that encompassed 40 major subprocesses, ultimately setting the whole process up to become a Lean Six Sigma project.

A smaller, but very important project to me,  involved working with Pepsi's Women of Color group to create a podcast interviewing executives in the company who are women of color. This project helped me feel empowered as a minority woman in the workplace, but also built a path for future strong women behind me to feeling accepted and emboldened in the workplace.

Developing Category Strategy for Local Businesses

Working in a group of five, my team and I found a thriving local business, Gadzooks, and was tasked with bringing their procurement practices up to task. From our work we found comprehensive solutions such as integrating the point of sales system, building visibility throughout the supply chain via stronger KPIs, and enhancing communication throughout the locations.

Defended Thesis with No Revisions

One of the singularly most difficult feats I've done. I devised a research question, gathered a group of relevant minds, and independently researched and wrote on the officiousness of Bottom of the Pyramid theory, all during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bottom of the Pyramid theory posits that business ideas that uplift the poorest of the poor in the world have the opportunity of reducing poverty while delivering economic business value. I researched the history and execution of the theory, the long-term impacts of prior execution, & ultimately developed a framework for culturally competent business intervention into extreme poverty.

Replenishment and Demand Planning for General Mills

My biggest of my three projects from this internship was an extensive demand planning project. Using a combination of formulas and historic information, I was able to predict demand across individual distribution centers (DCs), business units, and even products. This information informed decisions to phase out or flex up certain DCs and enabled more efficient use of contracted space. My work resulted in higher visibility, increased efficiency, and ultimately dramatic monetary savings.

Procurement for Project Cure

My first true professional experience was at the world's largest medical nonprofit, Project CURE. In this job, I entirely revamped their national inventory and procurement strategy by implementing a system that more accurately accounts for inventory donations and determines specific products that could become problem areas.
